Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

The above verse certainly did not say “to keep your lives free from money.” Because it is a given that as a human being we will need money to exchange for our necessities of life. But when a Christian’s focus stay on money and the love of it, it derails him from the very purpose of God for his life.

Truth be told, as God’s child, there is nowhere else we will find more comfort than in the center of God’s will. Just like a memory foam mattress, you are comforted exactly where you need to be. Who else can know us more than our very Creator?

Our church has always believed in the importance of Small Groups. More than just being a mere part of the things we do as ministers, we can actually say that this is the backbone of the youth church. While it is important for members to attend the Sunday worship services, it is within the bounds of small group gatherings that people can actually be heard.

Being lost in the crowd is one inevitable tendency of a young person who attends a youth ministry gathering. Unless we welcome a young person in a small group, it will be hard to get them connected to the rest of the young people in the ministry.

This is also why we encourage small group leaders to have a special day out where they welcome new attenders in the group. This is usually done in a non-threatening setting. A lunch out, a movie discount will be great too for such times. It can even be just a random videoke night party.

A good verse to bear in heart for all youth group leaders as they go about their ministry to the young people is from Ephesians 4:2 “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

SBC-Makati has been looking for a place to relocate to for months now. After a few meetings with the city hall representatives, we recently found out that the Makati Park Pavillion will only be available four Sundays in 2012. As much as we love its accessibility to a handful of our church members, even the JIVE Youth community, we need a more permanent place to not confuse our members and attenders.

There are a few more hotels around the Makati area that we are going to negotiate with instead. Let’s pray that God will lead us to the right place.

Starting June 2012, JIVE Youth will be held in another location. The exact place will be announced as soon as we have signed the contract of lease. There are at least a couple of locations we are currently considering.

Meanwhile, while we get ourselves ready for this major transition, let us be reminded that the church is the people, not the place, not the building. It might be that God wants us to go out of our comfort zone to mold us into further maturity. Even if we will not have elegant furnishings and comfy Century furniture in the place that we will relocate, we commit to press on with what god has called for SBC-Makati’s JIVE Youth Ministry.

Life is precious. While the world has pushed us to live life to the fullest, we are constantly challenging young people to redefine what a full life is, to begin with. Does life become full when one is healthy and has finished school with flying colors? Or how about a great paying job? Marrying the partner of your dreams?

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mothers womb I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” ( Psalms 139:13-14)

Life is more than just the satisfaction of our flesh. When we know what we are purposed to do in life from the Book of Life itself a.k.a. The Bible, we are driven give our best to glorify God. Regardless if you find a career in being patio planters, a farmer, a doctor or a more significant career as per the secular would have it. Knowing who we live for and what our purpose in life is makes all the difference in the world. Life, really, is more than what we currently see. Our life on earth is the ultimate preparation of what our eternal destination will be.

Believers are essentially called “disciples.” As fancy as this word sounds, it really is just, in a nutshell, a “follower of Christ.” An authentic christian’s life will reconcile with his claim of being a Christ follower. Being a plain believer will usually not suffice. This is why the Holy Spirit drives us towards the need of becoming more like Christ.

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:34-38)

Authentic Christianity in this day and age is what we need. No amount of book bags with piles of doctrines will teach what walking in Christ means. More than what we learn from the books, what changes a person’s heart is his nurtured personal relationship with the one true God.

The one ministry that usually attracts that young people is the music ministry. While church leaders can see this as an advantage, we should see beyond how good a person uses his guitar with his Bbe. Discipleship and making sure the person is right with God in his character and heart means more than all the musical talents a young person has. To begin with, God will eventually appoint someone for the job that needs done.
